The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Kazi Nazrul University felt the need to introduce fundamental disciplines in the university in its formative stage, one of which is Philosophy. In the process he gathered the best available scholars and created the proper atmosphere for intellectual activity. The department started its journey in the year 2015 and the first batch of students came out with flying colours and got convocated in 2018. The department is continuing smoothly with its academic pursuit and its quest for excellence.
Vision of the Department of Philosophy is to impart quality education. The education must have a holistic approach to make the students globally eligible and competent. The curriculum of the syllabi should not merely be subject oriented but value education requires being a part of the curriculum. The department is devoted to promote excellent research work which must be recognized by both nationally and internationally. We, on behalf of the department of Philosophy, are also interested in introducing different study-centres which are closely allied to the field of Philosophy. Aim of those study centres would be to understand different philosophical thoughts of the great philosophers and fundamental philosophical theories in the light of contemporary forms of “situated theory”, which evaluate the thoughts of our great stalwarts. The emphasis of the department is to practice classical philosophy from both Indian and Western perspectives, and also contemporary theories in both Indian and Western tradition etc. Keeping in pace with the global needs and challenges under the leadership and guidance of the Hon’ble Vice-chancellor, the department will offer several new courses of relevance and contemporary significance.
