Vision of the University
Kazi Nazrul University (KNU), a fledgling institution of higher learning, aims at generating a special genre of citizens with a perfect blend of knowledge, criticality, skills and values that are indispensable for the future of democratic imagination at home and abroad. In this, the University hopes to hone in its students the ethical habits that are crucial to any agenda of social change and economic growth. Committed to such a goal and reflecting an alive diversity in its student composition, KNU hopes to become a significant tool for social and historical justice in the field of higher education.
Mission of the University
To achieve the goals set by the University, this academia pledges:
- to pursue
student-centered teaching methods and to motivate students to engage themselves
in the pursuit of truth joyfully
- to develop
the criticality of outlook and insight, in order to push at the boundaries of
knowledge and expand one’s understanding of the world
- to lay special
emphasis on the liberal and cultural arts as well as to realise the role of
these arts in achieving an order of universal humanism, as inspired by the poetic
vision of Kazi Nazrul Islam
- to be guided by
an unwavering spirit of inquiry and a scientific temper – as enshrined in the
Indian Constitution – through one’s encounters with the field of knowledge and
experience
- to impart
training in all forms of cognitive competence and equip students with skills of
global standards
- to build capacity
and confidence of students, with a view to enabling them to compete at the
national and international levels
- to promote an
environment conducive to an appreciation of the aesthetic qualities ofthe
performing arts– particularly, in the field of music
- to encourage
students to become empathetic to others, sensitive to the current social-cultural-political
issues and to render them capable of meaningfully addressing the same through rational
dialogue and constructive discussion

towards realising the constitutional ideal of equality, irrespective of
differences and structural asymmetries on the basis of caste, class, gender,
religion and community
- to sensitise
students to the cause of social and economic justice, both within and outside
the University
- to ignite in
students an entrepreneurial vigour and leadership skills, capable of preparing
them for a life of professions
- to enable
students to feel deeply connected to the University community, to the
University environment, to the society at large and to the needs of Nature as

maintain an appropriate environment for addressing University affairs through
democratic processes, exercising rational and critical thinking

robust system of administration, marked with professionalism

cutting-edge ICT-supported infrastructure for e-learning and e-governance
