Brief History of the Department

The Department of Applied Psychology, KaziNazrul University started its journey in the year 2015. The department got its first batch convocated in 2018. The department is the first post-graduate department in West Bengal to run a syllabus based on CBCS system. The department is offering 3 specializations currently Clinical Psychology, Organizational Psychology and Rehabilitation Psychology to its credit. The Department has an official collaboration with Centre for Counselling and Positive Psychology of KaziNazrul University. Students of the Department run a wall magazine titled ‘MonerAntorale’.


Vision of the Department

The Department of Applied Psychology aspires to recognize itself both nationally and internationally in the field of psychology. It seeks to advance the science and professional practice of psychology and its benefits by disseminating the knowledge to create, promote and train our students as partners in advancing scientific knowledge and developing innovative solutions to important life problems both locally and globally. We aim to cultivate ethical individuals who have a well-developed capacity for synthesizing information, are strong critical thinkers and communicators, and respect and enhance diverse people, cultures and perspectives. We believe these skills are necessary for students to pursue a life of intellectual curiosity, to create flourishing in oneself and others, to contribute to the betterment of society, and compete in a rapidly shifting and complex world.


Mission of the Department

The primary objective of the department is to facilitate teaching-learning environment including practical training and research in the discipline of psychology. Applied aspects of all the study subjects are major focus of the department, so that students and community both get direct benefit. Department is committed to develop skilled professionals (viz. Clinical Psychologist, Counsellor, Industrial Psychologist, Rehabilitation Psychologist). Creating awareness and resources of helping hands within community for mental health is our obligation.

Facilities

a. General Laboratory:

The department has laboratory facilities for conducting psychological experiments and psychological testing (diagnostic assessments, personality assessments, IQ assessments and rating scales) on humans as well as clinical populations referred from different mental health institutes and professionals.

b. Departmental Library:

The department has a small departmental library consisting of the specimen copies received by the department faculties, journal of the university and photocopies of some rare books and dissertation done by the students. The students can issue them for their reference.


Outreach / Extension Programmes

  • Department celebrated World Mental Health Day on 10th October 2018. On this occasion mental health awareness programmes were organized on shopping malls on 9th& 11th October. Invited talks were organized in Seminar Hall of VidyacharchaBhavan, KNU. Honorable Vice Chancellor, KNU also inaugurated wall magazine prepared by the students of department.
  • On 18th April 2018 students and faculties of Department of Applied Psychology went on to provide disability certificates to 35 special children of AsansolAnandam: a special school in Asansol. 
  • Department of Applied Psychology reached out to Delhi Public School, Asansol to provide comprehensive psychological evaluation services to teachers as per their requirement.
  • The department was recently invited to participate in “World Autism Awareness” program on 2nd April 2018 organized by Department of Child and Women Welfare and Disability Commission, West Bengal. The students and faculty participated in the program.
